The first book in The First Law trilogy was brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable, however it is fair to say that not a lot happened. [Lisa's Take] Before They Are Hanged: First Law Book 2 (Joe Abercrombie). For extended exposition on the backstory of the world and the northern war stalls for time until its conclusion in the next book, Glokta's political, martial, and personal battles in the city of Dagoska keep the book afloat during all of the setup in the other two major subplots. Joe Abercrombie's first novel, "The Blade Itself," is the first in his "The First Law" trilogy. The same can be said about Before They Were Hanged. Cover of Before They are Hanged (First Law). Series: The First Law Trilogy (Book 2) Rating: (4.5/5). Or, more exactly, becomes more convoluted. Before They Are Hanged is Book 2 of The First Law Trilogy, this book continues where the cliffhanger in Book 1 left off and also ended in a cliffhanger. Before They Are Hanged, the second book in Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy, takes off right where The Blade Itself left off. Joe Abercrombie's Before They Are Hanged is the middle book in his First Law trilogy, following The Blade Itself and preceding Last Argument of Kings (which has an official US launch date of Sept. The continuing adventures of Chloe and Eboli. US publication The First Law trilogy consists of "The Blade Itself," "Before They are Hanged," and "The Last Argument of Kings." In my next White Calico Water Cats #3: Chloe gets an assist. His first book, The Blade Itself, was published by Gollancz in 2006 and was followed by two other books in The First Law trilogy, Before They are Hanged and Last Argument of Kings. This is the second book in Abercrombie's The First Law trilogy and picks up right after the first book. My review of The Blade Itself, the first book in this trilogy, was one of the more vicious reviews I've written.
